Attractions:
Cusco is surrounded by the wonders of nature and impressive architectural ruins. In the main square of the city you can purchase colorful crafts and appreciate the curious and charming design of the stone walkways and streets.
There are a number of tours to take from Cusco. One of the most beautiful is the visit to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Two routes can reach the destination, the town of Ollantaytambo. One is via the town of Pisac, known for its ruins and colorful Indian market, which is at its best on Thursdays and Sundays. The other route is through the town of Chinchero. Our advice is to go via Pisac and return through Chinchero. The attractions in the latter town are its Inca ruins, Viceregal church adorned with a mural painting and also its colorful Sunday Indian market. Both Pisac and Chinchero are about 35 minutes by car from the city of Cusco.Continuing along the route that borders the Urubamba River, you will emerge in the middle of the Sacred Valley, lying amidst mountains and plentiful crops that reveal the fertility of the soil. We recommend having lunch in Urubamba, where you can enjoy the lovely view from its outdoor restaurants. From there, you proceed on to Ollantaytambo. This is a site of particular interest, not only because of its Inca ruins (the quarries that yielded the stone for its construction can be visited), but also because of the town itself, where the original Inca streets and walls still stand. The city of Cusco is the starting point, as well, for the train trip to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Or you can make a 3 or 4-day trek along the Inca trail, which leads into the extraordinary citadel. You can also engage in different adventure sports from Cusco (mountain-climbing, mountain cycling, horseback riding, etc) or take off for the Manu Reserve.
